Overview

The Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) is a key executive responsible for shaping and driving the Bank’s commercial strategy, with a core mandate to drive sustainable revenue growth across credit, factoring, and cash management services. The CCO will lead the commercial teams to originate new business, expand into targeted markets, and deepen client relationships. The role is central to the Bank’s growth agenda, contributing directly to profitability, product innovation, and competitive positioning. The CCO also acts as a strategic advisor to the CEO and works collaboratively with other senior leaders to align commercial initiatives with regulatory, operational, and financial frameworks.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a commercial strategy aimed at expanding the Bank’s credit portfolio, with a strategic focus on SME financing.
  • Identify new markets and sectors for growth, develop tailored propositions, and establish strategic partnerships.
  • Drive origination of new business through targeted campaigns, sector outreach, and direct engagement with high-value prospects.
  • Establish and nurture strategic relationships with clients, introducers, professional networks, and partners to maximise lead generation and long-term commercial value.
  • Champion a relationship-driven approach that ensures high levels of client retention and satisfaction.
  • Own and manage the P&L of all commercial functions, ensuring revenue targets and profitability KPIs are consistently met.
  • Monitor market trends, client needs, and competitive developments to proactively adapt and enhance the Bank’s product suite
  • Develop incentive structures, pricing models, and revenue forecasting tools in collaboration with Finance and Credit.
  • Identify and act on cross-selling and upselling opportunities within the Bank’s broader product and service portfolio.
  • Collaborate with the Product team to design, refine, and launch products that meet market demands while aligning with risk appetite and regulatory standards.
  • Lead pilot initiatives and market testing of new products to accelerate time-to-market and customer feedback integration.
  • Build, lead, and mentor high-performing commercial teams.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, client-centricity, and commercial excellence.
  • Ensure proper resource allocation, performance tracking, and continuous development of team members.
  • Work closely with the CEO, CFO, and other executive members to ensure commercial initiatives align with overall strategic priorities and risk appetite.
  • Support the preparation of Board-level reporting and contribute to regulatory and supervisory discussions when relevant to commercial performance or product development.

Requirements
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen and strategic thinking, with a proven track record in driving growth and profitability within a Bank or financial institution .

  • In-depth knowledge of credit products, including loans and factoring as well as credit assessment methodologies.

  • Strong understanding of cash management solutions and their application in client servicing.

  • Extensive knowledge of EU and Maltese regulatory frameworks

  • Exceptional interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with a client-focused and results-driven mindset.

  • Leadership capability to build and manage high-performance teams across business development and product lines.

  • Ability to balance commercial growth with sound risk management and operational execution.

Education and Experience
  • A minimum of 7–10 years of experience in banking or financial services, including substantial exposure to credit and cash management.

  • Prior leadership across multiple commercial domains

  • Experience managing diverse revenue streams

  • A degree in Banking, Finance, Economics, or a related field. An MBA or professional certification (e.g., CFA, ACCA) is considered an asset.

  • Experience in a regulated EU banking environment and familiarity with local MFSA requirements is highly desirable.
